Erik was born on the mission field in Jos, Nigeria to David and Elsbeth Christensen. He attended Liberty University where he played baseball, was saved, and met and married Stephanie, the daughter of Wayne and Diana Barber. It was also at Liberty that Erik was called by the Lord to serve Him in the ministry. After earning a Biblical Studies degree, Erik began his ministry journey in TN where he served as a youth minister. He and Stephanie moved throughout the South until being called to serve as Senior Pastor at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in GA in 2002. During this time he was mentored by Dr. Spiros Zodhiates. In 2007 the Lord moved the Christensen family to Casa Grande, AZ where Erik served as Senior Pastor until receiving the call to Hoffmantown in 2010 as the Equipping and Associate Teaching Pastor. Erik and Stephanie have been married since 1992 and have 2 children, Hollen and Jonathan.

Chris Branan, Senior Associate Pastor | Ph: 858-8632

Email: Chris was born in Atlanta, GA and lived in the Decatur area until he left for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, TX in 1981. He accepted Christ as his Savior as a nine year old boy and answered God’s call to full-time Christian ministry in the spring of 1981. It was at SWBTS in the fall of 1981 that Chris met his future wife, Lois Townley. They were married in May 1985. Chris and Lois completed seminary in December 1984—Chris with a Master of Arts in Religious Education and an emphasis in Marriage and Family Counseling; and Lois with a Graduate Specialist Degree with an emphasis in Foundations of Education (having already completed her Master of Religious Education in December 1980). In 2002, seeking to follow the Lord’s leadership, Chris and Lois adopted two children– Cheyenne (then 5 years) and William (then 2.5 years). The Branans have two cats, Panda and Pepper– who bring much joy and excitement to the home.

Chris has served three churches in New Mexico prior to coming to Hoffmantown Church. He served as Education / Youth at First Baptist Church in Tucumcari from 1985-1992. Soon after arriving, he picked up the Administration responsibilities. In October 1992, he answered a call to serve with Del Norte Baptist in Albuquerque and served in the areas of Education / Administration until October 2000. And lastly, in October 2000, God opened the door to serve with First Baptist Church of Moriarty in the areas of Education / Administration. In December 2009, Chris resigned from FBC Moriarty, sensing a leading to work with churches throughout the State of New Mexico as a church educational consultant. Additionally, he began working in the Moriarty-Edgewood School District as the Student-Parent Liaison for at-risk students in the Alternative High School Program at Moriarty High School. From 1983-1985, Lois served with the Baptist Convention of New Mexico as a consultant for the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) as the state director for Mission Friends, GAs, and Acteens. She also served with the Convention in the same Department for an additional two years before they adopted their children in 2002. Chris and his family are excited to be part of the Hoffmantown family. We look forward to serving God with you!

David Hopkins, Pastor of Music Ministry | Ph: 858-8628

Hopkins,DavidEmail: I grew up in a Christian home with a musical family.  I was saved at six years old but didn’t grow in my relationship with the Lord till I was discipled as a teenager in youth ministry at church.  It was also in church where my gift for singing was discovered and developed.  After high school, God provided full scholarships in voice and I had every intention to pursue a career in opera (I wanted to be the next Pavarotti!), but God had other plans.  One night while meditating on a passage from Philippians 3 that says, “I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord…”, I was suddenly and irrevocably called into full time ministry.  My dream of being an operatic tenor was eclipsed by the supremacy of knowing and making known my Savior.  Upon graduating from T.U. (B.M. Vocal Performance ’00), I moved to Nashville, TN where I worked for LifeWay Christian Resources.  It was there in “Music City” where God solidified my calling.  While sitting and praying in a park one day, the Lord spoke to my heart and mind and said, “I want you to lead my people in worship.”  The voice was so strong it could have been audible.  Thus began an amazing journey that’s led me to Southwestern Seminary (M. Div/Ch. Music ’06), to serving as Worship Pastor of churches in Texas, Oklahoma, and now here in New Mexico.  Along the way, I met and married my beautiful wife and the love of my life, Ruth, and together God’s blessed us with three boys (Joshua, Samuel, and Andrew with one more on the way in July ‘14).  We are thrilled to be a part of what God is doing in this church.  My calling hasn’t changed since that day in the park and it’s the same here: my passion, joy, and privilege is to lead the believers of Hoffmantown Church to His throne in worship.

Erik Brewer, Student and Family Pastor of Children's Ministry | Ph: 858-8617

I served together with my wife Elena in the Eastern European country of Moldova for eight years as missionaries where I was a pastor and ESL teacher. I am a trainer with Precept Ministries International and have been teaching people how to study the Word of God for themselves for over 10 years. My passion is discipleship among all ages and especially children, reaching them with the message of the Gospel while they are young and training them in how to study the Word of God for themselves. I enjoy reading, writing, teaching, and playing sports as well as spending as much time with my family as possible. God has blessed me with awesome mentors and I love mentoring others.

Jim Smith, Elder

Jim started attending Hoffmantown in 1956 (age 6) at the “old” location. He received Christ at an early age and grew in knowledge but not surrender. Surrender to Christ became a reality in 1972 at a small local church where he eventually served as an elder. Jim and his wife, Vicki, returned to Hoffmantown in 1992 and they have served in many ministry areas. Jim is currently an adult K-Group teacher. Jim has seen leadership from many perspectives, both good and bad and has a passion for a restoration of biblical leadership in all aspects of life, especially individually and at Hoffmantown.

Kim has served over 30+ years at Hoffmantown Church, as a deacon, a teacher and helped establish discipleship ministries. He currently serves as an adult K-Group and D-Group teacher. Kim considers his calling as an elder to be an appointment from God and he believes an elder is primarily responsible for seeking God’s will for the church through prayer and the Word. Kim’s desire is to be a shepherd who is always sensitive and submissive to God, knowing that elders will be held accountable for their attitudes and actions as they serve Him.

John Thomas Sandager , Elder

He has been a member of Hoffmantown Church since 1990. He served as Executive Pastor for 2 years and has taught mid-school students to adults, and is currently an adult K-Group teacher. John and his wife, Susie, have spent the past 15 years working around the world establishing, strengthening and supporting Jewish-Christian relationships and have established “Yad B’ Yad” (Hand in Hand) ministry.
