CHURCH-WIDE ANNOUNCEMENTS

This Week’s Worship Service

This Sunday Joe Long will be preaching Onward, Christian Soldier (2 Timothy 2:3-4). Today’s songs are Victory In Jesus, America The Beautiful! Medley, and Worthy Is The Lamb Medley.

Pastoral Search Team

As a result of the PST listening to hundreds of candidate sermons between us, we are finding that God is doing double duty by growing us in our personal lives as well as helping us to see His guiding hand. Every week we are making significant progress, and enjoying God’s protection from division. Please continue to pray that we will be patient and wait for God’s perfect timing in revealing His choice. We are most grateful for your prayerful support! (Phil. 4:6)

The Wonder of Christmas

Hoffmantown Church invites you to attend The Wonder of Christmas on December 13 and 14 at 7pm. Interact with the sights and sounds of Christmas as you sing along to some of our most beloved Christmas carols led by our Choir and Orchestra. Reflect upon the events that took place in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago as our Drama team presents the Living Nativity and as you peruse the Nativity Gallery. And enjoy some complimentary refreshments and Christmas music in the Fellowship Mall before the doors open at 6:30pm. For more information, visit Hoffmantownchurch.org/Christmas.

Deck the Halls

Please join us on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22, from 9am-9pm each day and Saturday, November 23 from 9am-3pm as we Deck the Halls for Christmas at Hoffmantown. Please sign up in your K-Group or call Debra Byrd in the evenings at 856-1631 if you are able to help with decorating or could bring soup, sandwiches or snacks for the group.

Elder Affirmation

Jim Dearholt has been nominated and it has been affirmed that he is being called by God to serve as an Elder for Hoffmantown Church. Jim has been reviewed by the Elders and meets the qualifications required in our Bylaws Article V, Section 1. He has been endorsed by the Elders and the 30-day congregational review period starts effective Sunday, November 10. Anyone who has a Biblical objection of Jim serving as an Elder must submit that objection in writing to the Elder Council for consideration and response during this 30-day review. Please pray for Jim and his wife, Tara as they begin this journey.

Jim’s Testimony

Jim has been married to Tara for 25 years. They have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. They have owned Dearholt AutoCare for the last 31 years. Jim was invited to a Charles Duke breakfast in October 1992 by a member of Hoffmantown Church where he accepted Jesus as his Lord. Jim and Tara started attending Hoffmantown church the following week and have been active members since. They have been directors in the Jersak K-Group (formerly Cauwels) for the last 20 years. They have also served in many ministries within the church. Jim served as the chair of the men’s council last year and is a current member of the council.

MISSION

Angel Tree

The 2019 holiday season has begun! With the season comes the opportunity to share our wealth with those less fortunate. Angel Tree helps bring Christmas presents to children with an incarcerated parent(s). If you would like to help provide for these children, grab an angel from one of the trees around the church. Gift drop-off deadline is Sunday, December 1.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

In Loving Memory

Please continue to be in prayer for the family of Dave Aitken.

Veteran’s Day

Hoffmantown Church is “home-base” for over 65 veterans. Including families, we are home to hundreds of members with direct veteran connections. By raising their hands in swearing to their oaths of enlistment and commissioning, all veterans have said “I will lay down my life for my country.” For you, and me. As we honor the men and women from our body who serve, or have served in times past, please honor them in the most powerful way possible: PRAY. Pray that our Lord will protect those who are currently serving. Pray that the Great Comforter and Healer will help console those who have lost family members, in physical, mental and spiritual ways. Pray that our Great Provider will bring peace and calm to our families who remain at home while their loved ones serve overseas. Pray that the God of Wisdom will speak powerfully to those who lead our Armed Forces—from the President to the squad leader. Pray for our nation, and the Liberty we represent all around the world: “One Nation Under God.” Thank you all.

“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”  John 15:13, NASB

NERVES OF STEEL by Tammie Jo Shults

We all know the tragic story of the Southwest flight that took the life of Albuquerque’s Jennifer Riordan. Tammie Jo Shults was the captain of that flight. Nerves of Steel is the inspiring true story of her life—from growing up the daughter of a rancher in New Mexico, to breaking through gender barriers as one of the Navy’s first female F/A-18 Hornet pilots, to safely landing the severely crippled Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 and helping save the lives of 148 people. Not originally scheduled for the flight, there is no doubt God had prepared her and placed her right where she needed to be that day. Nerves of Steel is a captivating story of faith, courage, and perseverance.
