Compass – 7/28/19

This Week’s Worship Service

This Sunday Dr. Jimmy Jackson will be preaching on The Language of Victory (Numbers 16:1-4). Today’s songs will be Praise Him Praise Him, The Lion And The Lamb, Glory To His Name, and What A Beautiful Name.

Pastoral Search Team

Sometimes when a foundation is laid, it takes a while because the ground has to be dug up and repacked to ensure that it will be stable in a storm. As we lay our foundation, the PST has been meeting at least weekly, and have met with several pastors, elders, and representatives of the Governance and Transition teams. We have also had training from the Central Baptist Association in pastoral search procedures.

Please continue to keep us in prayer that God will establish His foundation according to His word.  (Matthew 7:26,27; James 3:17)

Church Council

Praise! A group of four from our church just helped lead the evangelistic team at an outreach with Greg Laurie. Around 350 made decisions for Christ.

Nominations for Church Council. The Church Council is soliciting nominations for the six at-large Church Council members (men and women) who will be voted on at the Annual Church meeting, September 29, 2019.  Nominations will be accepted through August 18, 2019. Include name and contact information for nominee and nominator. Explain why they are appropriate to serve and indicate their willingness to serve. Send to or submit a paper nomination that is available at the Receptionist Desk.

“The qualifications for Church Council membership are based upon the character qualities similar to those found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Colossians 3:5-25, with the exception of gender references, and with consideration given to specific expertise in specialized areas” (Excerpt from the Bylaws, Article 5, Section 5). In addition, the member must have demonstrated faithful service to the Lord and participation in Hoffmantown Church. It is recommended that they have been members for at least five years.

Kids Ministry Needs your Help!

There have been lots of babies born in the last year. We are adding another nursery classroom so we need lead teachers and assistants for both the 9:30 and 11am hours. We also are adding another class in the elementary school area. So, we are looking for teachers and assistants for the 11am 1st and 2nd grade class. We also have several openings in preschool and elementary children’s church during the 9:30am hour. Contact Sarah Goodrich in the children’s foyer or email at to find out how to get involved today!

Kids Ministry Staff Needed

Kids Ministry is seeking additions to our paid childcare staff. The childcare staff are responsible for providing care during the Tuesday morning Bible studies and helping care for the children’s equipment. Candidates should be available Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons for a total of about 6.5 hours per week. Interested individuals should have experience working with babies and preschoolers, be a regular attender of Hoffmantown, and able to pass a background check. To apply, please contact Sarah Goodrich in Kids Ministry at 858-8601 or for an application.

Promotion Sunday

As many of you may know, Promotion Sunday is around the corner. This exciting Sunday allows our students to graduate into their new classrooms, meet new teachers, and learn even more about our Lord. Before we reach Promotion Sunday in August, we will be holding our annual parent meeting. On July 28 at 12:30pm in the ROC, we will be having a meeting for all parents with kids ages birth through 6th grade for the 2019/2020 school year. It is a pizza party, so come hungry for lunch! We will not be providing childcare. However, we highly encourage you to bring your children as we hope they will also be excited to hear our plans for this upcoming school year. During this meeting, we will cover all the options for your children to get involved in church. You and your child will also have an opportunity to meet the Kids Worship and Kids K-Groups leaders at the end of the meeting. Please chat with Sarah Goodrich if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!

Special Mission Funding

A missionary couple, names redacted for security reasons, we support in Eastern Europe was suddenly in need of car repairs. Because of the generous gifts from our Hoffmantown family, The Mission Ministry was able to provide assistance for the car’s repairs. We were only able to provide assistance because of the gifts given to the Special Mission fund. This fund allows us to help not only provide emergency assistance to our missionaries, but it also helps send Hoffmantown members into the field to spread the Gospel. Thank you for helping us keep the message of the Gospel alive and thriving.

Bling Shows

We are now accepting donations of jewelry, scarves, purses, hats, and accessories for the annual Bling Show. The Bling Show is a jewelry resale show benefitting Shine Partnership (a church-school partnership). The show will be held on October 18 and 19 at Netherwood Park Church of Christ. There is a purple box at the Receptionist Desk where you can drop off your items.

His Store Needs!

His Store is in need of your help with the following food items: Jelly, saltine crackers, Spam, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodles, and canned chicken. Please drop off these items at the Receptionist Desk at any time. Check expiration dates before donating your items. Thank you for serving our Lord by helping feed those in need.

ABOVE ALL by J.D. Greear

In a world that divides over everything, J. D. Greear reminds us that above programs, politics, preferences or any other priorities we may be compelled by, Jesus promised to build his church on the rock of the gospel and that the gospel is the source of the Church’s renewal. We, on the other hand, often prefer to attack each other over second things instead of cooperating on the first thing. As Christians, we need to remember that the gospel comes first, bringing hope and grace, along with instructions for how we should live as representatives of our Savior, who has sent us on a mission to change the world.
