Wayne ByrdWayne accepted Christ at the age of seven in a small town Southern Baptist church in Vernon, Texas where he was baptized on March 8, 1959. He fell in love with and married a hometown girl, Debra, on June 15, 1973 while still attending college at Texas A&M University. After graduating with a Master of Science degree in Sociology, he taught at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) in San Marcos, Texas until 1978 when he and Debra returned to their hometown of Vernon to begin a career in the insurance industry. In 1990, that career brought them to Albuquerque and they immediately joined Hoffmantown Church and have attended ever since. They have raised three wonderful children here – Amy, Chris and Taylor, who are all serving the Lord in their church families. In addition, they have acquired a son-in-law, Kenny Grebe, and daughter-in-law, Courtney (Speakman) who also love and serve the Lord. They have been blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren and feel very fortunate to have all of them living right here in Albuquerque. After my father died I was pretty much of a Dennis the Menace getting into daily fistfights with my brother. One day as I passed through the house my frustrated mother asked me if I had ever accepted Christ as my Savior. Hmm, I thought. I knew what I must do. I had been taught throughout my childhood by both my parents and my Sunday School teachers. But I had never declared my personal need for a Savior and my belief in Him. I went out right after that and in the pasture behind our house as the sun was setting I gave my heart to Him acknowledging I was a sinner and needed Him as my Savior. Over the years I have studied, listened, learned, surrendered, and pursued the knowledge of Him, seeking to love Him with my heart, my soul, and my mind. I am on a walk with my Father pressing on to the upward prize of the call of Jesus Christ. He has continually pulled me into teaching roles that require I study the Word so that in desiring to present the truth I might know Him. I am His and He is mine. He is my Lord and my King. May He rule in His kingdom within my heart and may only His will be done through my life. As Paul said, “I count all things but rubbish that I might know Him.”

Chris BrananEmail: Chris was born in Atlanta, GA and lived in the Decatur area until he left for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, TX in 1981. He accepted Christ as his Savior as a nine year old boy and answered God’s call to full-time Christian ministry in the spring of 1981. It was at SWBTS in the fall of 1981 that Chris met his future wife, Lois Townley. They were married in May 1985. Chris and Lois completed seminary in December 1984—Chris with a Master of Arts in Religious Education and an emphasis in Marriage and Family Counseling; and Lois with a Graduate Specialist Degree with an emphasis in Foundations of Education (having already completed her Master of Religious Education in December 1980). In 2002, seeking to follow the Lord’s leadership, Chris and Lois adopted two children– Cheyenne (then 5 years) and William (then 2.5 years). The Branans have two cats, Panda and Pepper– who bring much joy and excitement to the home. Chris has served three churches in New Mexico prior to coming to Hoffmantown Church. He served as Education / Youth at First Baptist Church in Tucumcari from 1985-1992. Soon after arriving, he picked up the Administration responsibilities. In October 1992, he answered a call to serve with Del Norte Baptist in Albuquerque and served in the areas of Education / Administration until October 2000. And lastly, in October 2000, God opened the door to serve with First Baptist Church of Moriarty in the areas of Education / Administration. In December 2009, Chris resigned from FBC Moriarty, sensing a leading to work with churches throughout the State of New Mexico as a church educational consultant. Additionally, he began working in the Moriarty-Edgewood School District as the Student-Parent Liaison for at-risk students in the Alternative High School Program at Moriarty High School. From 1983-1985, Lois served with the Baptist Convention of New Mexico as a consultant for the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) as the state director for Mission Friends, GAs, and Acteens. Gregory ElderEmail: Gregory is the Pastor of Men’s, Women’s, Single’s, Legacy, Disciple Care, and Equipping Ministries here at Hoffmantown Church. His “life” story began at a revival in a small town when he was 12 years old and the Lord called him to Himself, through the precious Saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Though it would be 26 years later that he would truly understand the amazing power of Living Grace, God has used all circumstances and experiences in Gregory’s life to glorify Himself. Gregory and his family have attended Hoffmantown Church for over 16 years, where he has had the honor and blessing of serving the Lord in Biblical presentation, teaching, mentoring and discipleship. The Lord called Gregory into full-time ministry in 2014 and it has been his great joy to serve in this capacity ever since. Gregory is married to his “best bud” in Christ, Catrina and together they enjoy the company of five children and five grand-children.
Email: Tim Hale was raised in a mid-western farm community next to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He was raised in a Christian home by his parents, Johnny and Beth Hale; his wonderful Christian grandparents; and a strong, close-knit community. He came to know the Lord in his freshman year of high school through the influence of his college-age brother, who was involved with a Navigator ministry. After committing his life to Christ, Tim grew as a teen influenced by Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Immediately after college graduation in 1980, Tim and Jennifer married. Tim entered the Air Force. During his 28-year career, they raised three daughters, Jaime, Megan, and Ashley. They are now the THRILLED grandparents of 3 Blessings! Through the years, Tim served in numerous Bible study teaching and leadership roles through Officer’s Christian Fellowship, Base Chapel and community church. David HopkinsEmail: I grew up in a Christian home with a musical family. I was saved at six years old but didn’t grow in my relationship with the Lord till I was discipled as a teenager in youth ministry at church. It was also in church where my gift for singing was discovered and developed. After high school, God provided full scholarships in voice and I had every intention to pursue a career in opera (I wanted to be the next Pavarotti!), but God had other plans. One night while meditating on a passage from Philippians 3 that says, “I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord…”, I was suddenly and irrevocably called into full time ministry. My dream of being an operatic tenor was eclipsed by the supremacy of knowing and making known my Savior. Upon graduating from T.U. (B.M. Vocal Performance ’00), I moved to Nashville, TN where I worked for LifeWay Christian Resources. It was there in “Music City” where God solidified my calling. While sitting and praying in a park one day, the Lord spoke to my heart and mind and said, “I want you to lead my people in worship.” The voice was so strong it could have been audible. Thus began an amazing journey that’s led me to Southwestern Seminary (M. Div/Ch. Music ’06), to serving as Worship Pastor of churches in Texas, Oklahoma, and now here in New Mexico. Along the way, I met and married my beautiful wife and the love of my life, Ruth, and together God’s blessed us with three boys (Joshua, Samuel, and Andrew with one more on the way in July ‘14). We are thrilled to be a part of what God is doing in this church. My calling hasn’t changed since that day in the park and it’s the same here: my passion, joy, and privilege is to lead the believers of Hoffmantown Church to His throne in worship.

Upon returning to the States he became a registered Architect and Landscape Architect practicing in New Mexico and Texas, and attended UNM and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 1983. John was constantly seeking the Lord’s will in his life but not finding the necessary mentorship/discipleship that would lead to a deeper knowledge of Christ. In 1987 John took a chance and attended a worship service at Hoffmantown Church’s current site and within weeks he responded to the altar call and surrendered his life to Christ and was baptized. John met his best friend Janet at work, and she started attending Hoffmantown and was baptized here as well. Within a few years, they were married at Hoffmantown and have been members ever since. John and Janet have been a part of wonderful K-Groups over the years and those relationships have sustained them through the smooth and rough spots. They have served together in many areas and continue to do so now. Both are members of the Gideons International, through which John was introduced to International Missions and served on 4 teams out of country and many within the US. Since the late 1990’s, John has heard God calling him into full time missions.
